ALVA
Alva is a light fingering thin 2-ply yarn spun from fibers from Peruvian alpacas. Alva is soft, warm and shiny and suitable for many kinds of projects. The thin yarn is perfect for knitting together with our other qualities. In addition, Alva is a wonderful alternative follower yarn instead of a thin mohair yarn.
We use the same delicious fiber quality that is also used in Vilja.
Alpaca is a species of llama that belongs to the camel family, native to the South American highlands. The alpaca fiber has been used by the indigenous people of South America for millennia.
In the South American highlands, the temperature can fluctuate between -20 and +30 degrees in a single day. The alpaca fibers are hollow and contain air bubbles. This makes the fiber breathable when it's hot, and insulating when it's cold. It helps the alpacas cope with the changeable conditions in the highlands, and makes alpaca extremely suitable for clothing.
